COLLEPAGLIA: GREAT EXPECTATIONS
www.tenimentiangelini.it
The estate is named for the gentle hill Colle di Paglia which means hill of straw. The shape of the hill resembles the rounded hay stacks which dot the fields in the heart of Marche. Collepaglia is the Angelini Group’s first foray into the wine world, when, in the 1950’s, Francesco Angelini (grandfather of the current owner) played a significant role in establishing Verdicchio as one of the first Italian wines to be successfully exported. He is also credited with introducing the familiar amphora shaped bottle so closely linked to Verdicchio. Proud of these origins, the family has retained significant land and vineyard holdings in the area. The soil is dominated by massive sand layers and the sun exposure and influence of the Adriatic make for perfect conditions to produce the best Verdicchio.
